about

The world needs goodwill now more than ever and miracles are happening all the time. I will share a story about one in my life… Growing up in New Jersey, it was inevitable that I would hear Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band at a very early age. I think I was seven years old when my brother played me "The Wild The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle". It was seminal experience. I had been playing piano for a few years at that point but when I heard the record and specifically "New York City Serenade" - with the incredible piano intro by David Sancious where he plays the opening of Grieg's piano concerto in E minor and answers with his own improvisation flowing seamlessly into the song- I heard what music could do, and I knew I wanted to do it too.

Fast forward many years later and there I am living in Woodstock - following the dream - listening to my friend Eric's band play at a local bar when he comes over after the first set and says, "Wow, my two favorite keyboard players!" I thought I was alone, but I turned to look at the dude next to me and it was David Sancious!

Yes, miracles can find you anywhere. So we got to talking as piano players from Jersey do. Even though he was and is busy working with both Peter Gabriel and Sting, we were able to record a "four hand" version of "Carol of the Bells" with Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates) and where I heard him first on "Still the One" the top 5 hit in 1975 by The Orleans on drums.
